112110 Weapon of Warrior Wisdom

Hello warriors.

Here is today’s Weapon of Warrior Wisdom.

I want to note something here that I believe has been misunderstood by some. These Weapons of Warrior Wisdom, as I came to call them, were, initially, created for me and my own (motivational) benefit, no one else’s. (I tell the story of why I do them at the Weapons page that catalogues all of them that I have made available for auction.) The weapons were never intended to be “polished” fine art pieces that I was creating solely to be sold to the public.

An art acquaintance suggested that I sell them — and it has turned out to be an awesome idea (most of them I have listed have sold), especially since I am an artist in the business of selling art. There are what some might see as minor flaws in some of these art pieces, i.e., the quality of handwriting, the bleeding of ink in places, and the apparent quick watercoloring. Does that prohibit me from seeing them as art or selling them? No, of course not.

When it comes to art, everything is subjective. If you think these Weapon pieces aren’t worthy of being called art, then you won’t think the $1,000,000.00 solid white canvas I can show in you one of the most revered art galleries in the world is either. The point is, no one who has bought one thus far has been forced to buy one. If you would like one, bid on it. If not, don’t.

Here is today’s Weapon of Warrior Wisdom.

Today is a significant day. I suppose. A lot is on the line. So you hear. I remember a few years ago I used to think so. I want to remind you that it is not so significant that it has anything at all to do with the attitude you can choose to have each and every day of your life. Read Victor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning, to have this idea knocked into your head.

I used to voice my opinion on politics quite a bit. If you’ve been coming around awhile, you know this. If you haven’t, you wouldn’t because I don’t say much about those things anymore. I still pay some attention, but after my conservative activism involvement a few years back, I came to realize paying too much attention and opining only irritated me and disrupted my generally positive attitude about life. I have my life and it is made up of time and I don’t want to waste any of it on things that are, for the most part, as a single individual and family man concerned about making things in his life work each day, out of my control. I’ve no desire to be a politician or a political pundit. You have to be a liar, a fraud, a hypocrite, and an enabler of ignorance, stupidity, dependence and injustice. And I just have to accept the fact that I am not cut out to be those.

I will tell you, since a lot of people write and ask, I think Obama has been the best thing that could have happened to this country at these times in our history. His Presidency — the worst and most anti-American by any and all measures — has woken a lot of people up and I no longer believe this country will ever go totally to hell-in-a-handbasket. I really do believe this country is always going to be all right and find its way back to its originating ideas.

The Founders were brilliant, mostly because they read and studied and understood history. They saw the potential pitfalls and were smart enough to put checks and balances in place so that The People could reset the country’s compass if and when it strayed too far off course. This is going to happen today. And those who are being given a second chance better never again forget the scolding The People are handing down now or they will be the first slaughtered in a certain revolution in the very near future.

It’s really amazing to me, as I am sure it is for so many of you, just how demonized real american patriots — decent, responsible and caring human beings — are and how unfathomably blind and egregiously dug in our arrogant government leaders are. The overt dismissal of reality all around is something I just can’t stomach any more, from all sides and all forums.

If you will go back and read the writings of the Founding times there is also something else you will get from reading between the lines. You — the person, the individual — are endowed with the intelligence to always outsmart the government and whatever restrictions it tries to enforce on your freedoms — your life, your liberty, your pursuit of happiness.

Read and reread the Founding writings and think about it. If you do, you’ll figure it out.

And the greatest and most powerful way to outsmart the government (or anyone else for that matter) is never surrender the freedom you have to choose your attitude about things. Let them make hell on earth. But never let them fuck with your peace of mind. When all else is ugly, you can always find beauty there.

I was reading some of my classic and collectible health and fitness material, working on a BODY Ezine I want to send out. I’ve been collecting old school weightlifting, strongman and bodybuilding books and magazines for years. I had come across the Nautilus Bulletins, the writings by Arthur Jones that changed the course of fitness and exercise forever. He was his own man and spoke what was on his mind no matter how or who it offended. I admire that. It inspires me. He passed a few years ago but with the election tomorrow and the state of things as they are right now, I couldn’t help but smile at his classic statement; “I’m about 64,000 miles to the right of Atilla the Hun.” I was reminded, too, that I had drawn up an Arthur Jones Weapon Of Warrior Wisdom a few years ago when I was in need of inspiration. I dug it out from the stack. Here it is.

These are interesting times for our country.

There is always a lot of clamoring by pundits for another Ronald Reagan. I think Ronald Reagan would be the first one to say that what this country truly needs is another George Washington.

John Locke Weapon of Warrior Wisdom

Here is today’s Weapon of Warrior Wisdom.

One of the great fortunes of my self education is to learn that when I want to understand something better, the best understanding I can possess lies in classic and historical resources, the thoughts and writing of those who I refer to as: Greater people with Greater minds who have done Greater things than any of us living today. John Locke was one of these human beings. In his essay on education, “Some Thoughts Concerning Education,” this is his very first paragraph:

§ 1. A SOUND mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this world. He that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be but little the better for any thing else. Men’s happiness or misery is most part of their own making. He, whose mind directs not wisely, will never take the right way; and he, whose body is crazy and feeble, will never be able to advance in it. I confess, there are some men’s constitutions of body and mind so vigorous, and well fram’d by nature, that they need not much assistance from others; but by the strength of their natural genius, they are from their cradles carried towards what is excellent; and by the privilege of their happy constitutions, are able to do wonders. But examples of this kind are but few; and I think I may say, that of all the men we meet with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education. ’Tis that which makes the great difference in mankind. The little, or almost insensible impressions on our tender infancies, have very important and lasting consequences: and there ’tis, as in the fountains of some rivers, where a gentle application of the hand turns the flexible waters in channels, that make them take quite contrary courses; and by this direction given them at first in the source, they receive different tendencies, and arrive at last at very remote and distant places.

Locke believed that we each have a unique genius inside of us. He called it our “aptitude and inclination” and that we, from a young age, should be mentored and taught to be “in Tune” with these.  He thought if they was disregarded it was damaging, led to an Unsound life. I was talking about this here.

“For a child will learn three times as much when he is in Tune, as he will double the Times and Pains when he goes awkwardly or is dragg’d unwillingly to do it.”

Today’s Weapon of Warrior Wisdom

Here are today’s Weapon of Warrior Wisdoms.

Christopher Columbus. I’m no historian. I realize that some qualified scholars claim parts of his history are apocryphal. Whatever the truth, I am willing to accept it. But until there is a single truth accepted across the board, the story of Christopher Columbus, as it stands right now and as it was taught when I was growing up (before there was p/c hatred for real heroes and great American history), inspires me. He had heroic guts inside of him and he put it all on the line and that is what matters to me.

And this guy? Well, he continues to be quite the Mentor over the years. He keeps inspiring me everyday to not give up believing in myself and not to give a fuck what others think.

Hello fellow warriors –

Thanks for your interest in my Weapons of Warrior Wisdom Art pieces. (By the way, thanks also for all the great email and comments. I read and much appreciate them all but there are way too many for me to have the time to respond to.)

Four of the six Weapons I originally posted to kick off sales have been sold. Bidding was fierce and I wound up surprised myself. Once my art friend (the one who suggested I make them available for purchase) finds out how well it went I’m sure he’s going want a cut of the action. The way it all happened reminds me of Acres of Diamonds. A classic, little but great book, by Russell Conwell, about discovering diamonds in your own backyard — the very place we often look right over. I’ll put it on my next list of suggested books to read and say a little more about its ideas, too.

Weapons of Warrior Wisdom

Hello, fellow warriors –

The other day a new art acquaintance was over in my studio and he spotted a big stack of 6×9 pieces of watercolor paper with drawings, quotes and doodles up on them. He started going through them and asked me what they were.

I told him they are my Weapons of Warrior Wisdom. It just came out without really thinking about.

He couldn’t believe how many there were and that they were just sitting there piled up one on top of the other. There must be 500 or more. He said, “Well, whatever you call them, they’re damn good… unique…and inspiring…and you ought to consider making these available for purchase as one way of selling more of your art.  You said you’re not sold on doing prints of your larger original pieces, so then sell these as originals.”

So, I’ve posted just few to start. You can click on each and it is linked to another page with a larger view.

Each of these pieces is on a 6×9 piece of 400 Series Strathmore cold press Watercolor paper and drawn/colored with Archival Inks that won’t fade. I’ve also framed them — nice quality white wooden 8×10 frame with glass — desktop size. They are Numbered and Dated on the back of the black mat paper.

I do one every day. (The first thing I do at 4 am when I get up is read. The next thing I do is draw/sketch these pieces.)

I do sketches of individuals who inspire me (authors, creators, doers, thinkers, historical figures, etc.) and scrawl a quote of theirs beside the drawing. Or I do doodles using my Ultimate Warrior logo or Always Believe. I do these as part of my daily self-study and to inspire myself and get into a positive, ass-kicking frame of mind for the day. As I’ve told you before, you can’t depend on others to motivate you. You have to do the work yourself and you have to do the work every day — every single day. Me, too.

The starting bid on these is $100.

I’m going to let the bidding on these 6 pieces run till Wednesday, October 6. From that point, I will post a new one M-F and let bidding run till the clock strikes midnight of the day it is posted.

Send me an email telling me what one you would like to bid on and what you would like to bid. I will follow up with bidders throughout the day with updates.

It’s coming along…

Several of you have asked about that 24″x36″ Ultimate Warrior painting I started.

Did it sell? Have you continued to work on it? Thanks for asking.

Yes. Both. It did sell. A great young kid from NY stole it at the 50% off finished price I offered it at. It’s going to be a killer piece of artwork and an incredible one-of-a-kind collectible.

I’m also going to kick off pre-sales for a Limited Edition Print of it in the next couple of days. Print will run just a little smaller in size and be produced in a limited quantity (very high-quality), each available for signature however you like and a COA will be included.

Here are a few new shots of the work in progress. Inexpensive ELPH digital camera. No professional lighting. No image alteration. Pictures don’t do the thick oil paint and knife-only work justice. Nice wheels, don’t you think?

Warrior Art.

“A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his mind is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.”

~Thomas Aquinas

Summer here is going great! Doing juried art shows, traveling the country…great way to vacation with my heaven-sent Warrior girls! Busy, busy, busy working on building up my portfolio. Have some great pieces completed.

Many of you ask, “Why no UW paintings?” I get this all the time at all the art shows, too. So, I got one under way — a real classic shot of UW shaking the ropes. I’ll be putting up an image of the smaller, 24″x36″ “study” piece I’m working on in a few days to show you the work in progress. After it is near completion, I’m going to decide on whether or not to do a larger work (48″x72″) of it. Going to start doing more self-portraits, as well. Should be interesting.

The sunflower images here are of small pieces I’ve done that go over real well at the shows I’ve been doing. Can’t knock them out fast enough!! They run 6″x8″ to 10″x”12″. I knife the paint on really thick and run it all over and round the edges of the canvas. I know the prices on my large pieces, what I enjoy doing the most, are not in everyone’s price range. These small ones are cheaper…still, ALL Warrior art…ALL oil paint (applied with only a knife), bold, thick!! I’m working on others and will get those up when they are done.

A couple of the pieces here are available for purchase in two sizes. Usually, I do a “study” piece, typically in black and white but sometimes very toned-down color (called a value study), to see how and what I think about putting the image down onto a larger canvas. When you click on the linked image, all the info will come up in a new browser window.

Make LIFE happen! Get out there and do it!! START!!!!

Always Believe,

Warrior
