Warrior, my comment some time back about a Constitutional Convention was not tongue in cheek. It only takes I think 34 States to call for one, does it not?
In the 1780s the Confederacy form of government we had was not working, so our founders sat down to change it. When Jay, Hamilton, and Madison wrote the Federalist Papers, though, they did something that isn’t done in the media any more, they used Aristotelean logic and appealed to enlightened minds to THINK. Now people are too busy to think, letting Limbaugh et al tell them what to think. We get sound bytes, blurbs, and photo ops to appeal to our guts. It is much easier to sway people’s feelings than their minds, and Murdoch, etc know this. Not too many people take the time to balance their input from the right and the left. So while I want this change, I think the “sheople” as you put it, will continue on this path to tyranny.
However, if this is what we want, you hit the nail on the head. Our votes do make a difference on the State and local level. State legislators are much easier to reach than the Federal ones. If enough of us vote for reform minded state legislators, then the revolution can happen.
I agree, very much with most of your post, Warrior. And when people call me “unpatriotic” for thinking this way, I try to remind them of what was written in the Declaration of Independence, “that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government…”
If it is going to be done, it must be soon, for I fear the next administration (probably Democrat) will take away guns from Americans. Once the guns are gone, the government will have no watchdog with teeth.
As was said in the movie “V for Vendetta”, People should not be afraid of their government, governments shoudl be afraid of their people.

Like you, I want the best for my kids. This world scares the hell out of me. I have been looking at the Libertarians lately, I think on the state level this is the way to go.

    Be well,

    Sponge

Fantastic post Warrior. I only vote for people that show me some charactor and some balls. I signed up to vote but I have nobody to vote for. All I see is greedy politicians with no true american spirit. They just live comfortable little lives and forgot what this country was about and how great it was. This country is being run by weak wimpy pussies. When it used to be run by strong warriors. I only hope that someday soon we can find some strong warriors and show the world that this country is not to be messed with. That it is the greatest country in the world and that it is in the best interests of the terrorists and anyone else who is antiamerican to go pick on somebody else because America’s greatness will silence them all.

    Warrior,

One problem I have with the whole concept of another revolution, peaceful or otherwise is as follows.

Back in the 1780s it was the age of enlightenment. Many men saw that putting the needs of their nation over themselves was tantamount. Some through their faith, some through their Masonic beliefs, others through their own hard learned wisdom. These men weren’t forming this Nation for self-aggrandizement, but rather, because it was right.

Are there enough enlightened selfless thinkers out there today to accomplish this in the modern era? Watching booknotes might shine the light on a few….but I have lost my faith in modern humanity. No one it seems is in “it” without there being something in “it” for them.

While I see more people wanting to get at the truth….whatever that truth might be, I still see millions swallowing political snake oil. Sure, what these politicians sell us might make us feel good for a time, but it will kill us in the long run.

    Be well,

    Sponge

Like Emma Goldman said, ” if voting changed anything, it’d be illegal”. People have a narrow concept of what revolution is, that it is simply a change in who rules. A social revolution from the bottom up, is a sorce of much more meaningful change.

A capitalistic society conditions someone automatically to be selfish. Survival of the fittest. The survival of my family is more important than yours so what should I care if the widow down the street from me does not have healthcare. Well put Sponge Daddy “We get sound bytes, blurbs, and photo ops to appeal to our guts. It is much easier to sway people’s feelings than their minds, and Murdoch, etc know this. Not too many people take the time to balance their input from the right and the left. So while I want this change, I think the “sheople” as you put it, will continue on this path to tyranny.” ”

Excellent commentary. I wish that instead of “voting for the lesser of two evils” The American voters would get off their lazy asses and investigate the other political parties. It’s disgraceful that your average American knows everything about all of the candidates for American Idol yet knows nothing of any political party other than the Democrats or the Republicans.
